2024 Annual Conference


The Utah Food Industry Association will host its 2024 Annual Conference and Celebration on August 6th at the Davis County Conference Center. During the event we will induct Monte Peterson owner of Peterson’s Market into the industry’s Hall of Fame as well as pay tribute to the Call to Action Foundation a company that has made extraordinary efforts to support affordable housing for retail workers in Utah.

MONTE PETERSON - Peterson’s Market

Monte learned his work ethic and the basics of the grocery business from his father, Bruce in the family grocery store. Continuing the family tradition of learning a trade, of Monte became a journeyman butcher and managed the Peterson’s meat department for many years.

When his parents retired, Monte and his siblings became the third-generation operator of Peterson’s Market in Riverton. Monte was committed to both the family business as well as the success of the independent grocer. He demonstrated his commitment to the industry by serving on the board at Associated Food Stores for 22 years and as the Chair of the Board for nine of those years. During those years of leadership he and the board made many critical decisions that changed the trajectory for AFS and the independent grocer.

Monte was always an exceptional student and was a Sterling Scholar in mathematics, graduating Cum Laude in Business Management at the University of Utah. In 1976 he married the love of his life Shelly Howell and now has a family of five children and 14 grandchildren.

CALL TO ACTION FOUNDATION

The Call to Action Foundation preserves and expands access to affordable housing properties for seniors and working families in the West and Midwest.  A prominent social determinant of health, affordable housing provides many community benefits including increased consumer spending, job and economic growth, reduced evictions and decreased homelessness in addition, it provides stability for children who need safe, stable places to learn and grow.  Since its inception in 2022, the Foundation has invested over $38 million to secure and preserve safe and affordable housing for families in the region.
