2008 Legislative OverviewThe 2008 general session of the Utah Legislature ended at midnight on Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Any bill that did not pass died and must be reintroduced next year if the sponsor wishes to continue pushing the issue. Bills that passed the legislature, and are not vetoed by the Governor, either become law on their effective date or on May 4, 2008. The Government Relations Committee meets weekly each Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. during the legislative session. Members of the Association are invited to participate in the meetings. The meetings are held in the Conference Room of the Association Office (1578 West 1700 South, Suite 100, Salt Lake City). We have a no-host lunch available for those who would like to eat while you meet. We also have call-in capabilities for those members who would like to participate. Depending on the issues and discussion the meeting will run for approximately one hour. The Association's website will be updated each week and you will be able to use it to get up-to-speed on the various legislative issues that we are working on. If there is an issue that you for sure want to discuss at the meeting, you can contact Jerry Dewey, Committee Chairman, or Jim Olsen and let them know so the Committee will be sure and include it on the agenda. You can contact Jerry at: (801) 556-9981 or JRDewey@afstores.com. Jim Olsen can be contacted at (801) 973-9517 or JOlsen@utfood.com. The Utah Legislature's web site is located

If you have questions about any issues or need additional information, please
do not hesitate to send an email to Jim Olsen at jolsen@utfood.com, or call the
Association office at 973-9517.
